There are interesting reviews out, such as one which compares its characters to Lois McMaster Bujold's Fawn and Dag characters from The Sharing Knife.
Check it out. The man himself not only blogs the way Heinlein's Manny character would (if The Moon is a Harsh Mistress were today), he writes stories even better.

On a related note, Dave pointed his LJ readers to this interesting take LeGuin had on the Lehrer news hour's Margaret Atwood's comments on SF.
Egads. No talking cabbages equals Not SF?? *sigh*

In Other News: My The Milkweed Project Progress
Today I finished getting my filet crochet design charted out properly. Must now review how to do more advanced combinations when actually doing crocheting (my design uses more advanced techniques that were inspired by a circa 1918 British Wall Hanging filet crochet design, though not quite as complex [it's not called for in my design]).
To clarify, most filet crochet leaves a space (ch 2, dc), or a block (3dc), but I'm using bars and lacets, too. Bars (--) are ch5, dc, and lacets (\ /) are ch3, sc, ch3, dc. And they can be used in part (half a bar = a line across only one block's space, and a lacet [looks like a chevron pointing down] can be halved, too, slanting down "\" or up "/") and in combination. Usually a lacet is topped by a bar, so it's more stable, but may be topped by a block, and others, though those are a little more difficult.
And yes: cr = crochet, dc = double crochet, ch = chain, sc = single crochet. Took me decades to "kin" those terms!
And I've decided to add-on the macrame portion as sampler selections, of lovely macrame knottery combinations. SO glad my mother gave me her old (c) 1969 and 1974 macrame books! So clear in their instructions, and so many old and then-contemporary projects shown in the pictures. Gotta love it.
~Will get back to fairy tale retelling work when my head's not quite so fuzzy. Seems hand-work always comes back before writing stuffs.
